Paul runs the standards desk, which every story passes through before publication. Every number in a draft, every rate, percentage, dollar figure, count and date, is matched against the source material, and a figure that cannot be found there is cut before the story runs. He also handles corrections: readers who spot an error write to him, and the correction is noted on the story.
