Second quarter of 2026

Airbnb reported 148.3 million Nights and Seats Booked in the second quarter of 2026, up 10% from a year earlier, in the shareholder letter it filed with its results on 6 August 20261. Gross Booking Value was $27.2 billion, up 16%, and revenue was $3.6 billion, up 17%1.

Net income for the quarter was $816 million1. The letter said the increase came mainly from higher operating income and a $77 million benefit linked to recently published guidance on prior-year taxes1. Adjusted EBITDA was $1.3 billion, up 21% from $1.0 billion a year earlier, and net cash from operating activities and free cash flow were both $1.3 billion1.

The average daily rate, which the letter’s tables label Gross Booking Value per Night and Seats Booked, was $184, up 5% from the second quarter of 20251. For the third quarter of 2026, Airbnb forecast revenue of $4.69 billion to $4.77 billion, growth of 15% to 17% that includes a benefit from exchange rates of about three percentage points after hedging1.

Airbnb had not filed third-quarter 2026 results when this page was checked on 8 October 2026. The latest results filing on the SEC’s EDGAR system is dated 6 August 202617.

Annual results from 2019 to 2025

For 2025, Airbnb reported 533.0 million Nights and Seats Booked, up 8%, and Gross Booking Value of $91.3 billion, up 12%3. Revenue was $12,241 million, against $11,102 million in 2024, an increase the letter put at 10%3. Net income was $2,511 million, against $2,648 million3. The 2025 Form 10-K puts Adjusted EBITDA at $4,297 million and free cash flow at $4,613 million, against $4,041 million and $4,484 million for 20244.

The table below gives each year as Airbnb first published it. The 2019 figures come from the prospectus for the company’s initial public offering, filed in December 202016. In its first annual results as a listed company, Airbnb reported 193.2 million Nights and Experiences Booked for 2020, a change of (41)% from 2019, and revenue of $3.4 billion, a change of (30)%15. For 2021 it reported 300.6 million Nights and Experiences Booked, up 56%, and Gross Booking Value of $46.9 billion, up 96%14.

Later letters show two of the table’s figures differently. Free cash flow for 2021 was first reported as $2.2 billion14. The letter for the fourth quarter of 2022 shows it as $2,288 million and says the 2021 cash flow statement was revised to correct errors that related mainly to the timing of tax payments from the net settlement of equity awards at the December 2020 offering13. Free cash flow for 2019, $97.3 million in the prospectus, appears as $108 million in the letter for the fourth quarter of 20231612.

Net income of $4.8 billion in 2023 included a tax benefit12. The statement of operations in that year’s letter shows a provision for (benefit from) income taxes of $(2,690) million, and the letter refers to the release of Airbnb’s valuation allowance in 202312.

Quarterly results since 2024

The quarterly table covers the first quarter of 2024 to the second quarter of 2026. Its figures come from the quarterly summary in the second-quarter 2026 letter and were checked against each quarter’s own letter, with no differences found1.

Airbnb describes its business as seasonal, with the peak travel season in the third quarter in North America and in Europe, the Middle East and Africa4. Nights and Gross Booking Value are counted when trips are booked, while revenue is recognised at check-in, so the series move differently through the year4. In the second-quarter 2026 summary, Nights and Seats Booked were 132.6 million in the first quarter of 2024 and 143.1 million in the first quarter of 2025, against 111.0 million and 121.9 million in the fourth quarters of those years1. Revenue was $3,732 million in the third quarter of 2024 and $4,095 million in the third quarter of 20251.

The letters’ text rounds the average daily rate to the dollar: $187 for the first quarter of 2026, up 9% from a year earlier, a rise the letter said benefited from exchange rates2.

How Airbnb counts nights, bookings value and revenue

Airbnb’s 2025 Form 10-K defines Nights and Seats Booked as the total number of nights booked for stays plus the total number of seats booked for experiences and services, net of cancellations and alterations that occurred in the period4. The filing adds these details.

  • One night can cover several guests, and the listing can have one bedroom or several4.
  • Bookings count in the quarter in which they are made. A booking made on 15 February is reflected in the quarter ended 31 March; if it is cancelled on 15 May, the cancellation reduces the figure for the quarter ended 30 June4.
  • One seat is counted for each person taking part in an experience or service, and the filing says substantially all bookings on the platform so far have been nights4.

Gross Booking Value is the dollar value of bookings in the period. It includes host earnings, service fees, cleaning fees and taxes, net of cancellations and alterations, and the full amount of a booking is counted in the quarter it is made, whether the guest pays everything upfront or uses the Pay Less Upfront program4.

Revenue is a different measure. It consists of Airbnb’s service fees, net of incentives and refunds, and is recognised when the guest checks in, which is why the 10-K calls Gross Booking Value a leading indicator of revenue4. For experiences and services Airbnb earns only a host fee, and substantially all of its revenue comes from stays4.

Adjusted EBITDA is net income or loss adjusted for items that include income taxes, interest income, depreciation and amortisation, stock-based compensation and certain non-income taxes. Free cash flow is net cash from operating activities less purchases of property and equipment3. The 10-K notes that Airbnb collects its service fees at the time of booking, so the timing of Gross Booking Value affects free cash flow4.

An active listing is a listing of a home or an experience that is viewable on Airbnb and has been booked at least once, excluding HotelTonight4. Airbnb says it is not aware of uniform standards for calculating these metrics, which may hinder comparison with other companies that calculate similarly named metrics differently4.

What the measures leave out

  • Nights and Seats Booked and Gross Booking Value are net of cancellations and alterations, so cancelled trips drop out of the totals4.
  • Revenue leaves out the host earnings, cleaning fees and taxes inside Gross Booking Value4.
  • The active-listings count leaves out listings that have never been booked on Airbnb and listings on HotelTonight4.
  • None of the measures counts guests4.

From Nights and Experiences Booked to Nights and Seats Booked

Airbnb’s letters called the bookings count Nights and Experiences Booked up to the letter for the first quarter of 2025, defining it as nights booked for stays plus seats booked for experiences7. From the letter for the second quarter of 2025, filed on 6 August 2025, the count is called Nights and Seats Booked and also includes seats booked for services6. The letters read for this page do not explain the change.

Later tables carry earlier quarters under the new name with unchanged values. The first quarter of 2024, for example, shows 132.6 million both in the letter for that quarter and in the second-quarter 2026 summary111. The tables on this page note which name applies to which period. The 2025 annual total of 533.0 million is Nights and Seats Booked, and Airbnb compared it with 491.5 million for 20243.

Hosts, listings and guest arrivals

Airbnb’s letter for the second quarter of 2026 says the company has grown since 2007 to over 5.5 million hosts, who have welcomed over 2.5 billion guest arrivals1. Its letter for the fourth quarter of 2025 says Airbnb ended 2025 with over 9 million active listings and operates in more than 220 countries and regions3. The 2025 Form 10-K gives a headcount of approximately 8,200 employees at 31 December 20254.

The 2025 Form 10-K and the 2026 letters do not give a count of cities or a total of what hosts have earned. The December 2020 prospectus said hosts offered listings in approximately 100,000 cities and had cumulatively earned over $110 billion16. Later letters gave annual figures: a record $34 billion earned by hosts in 2021, and more than $57 billion in 20231412.

Results by region in 2025

Airbnb’s letter for the fourth quarter of 2024 said the majority of its business is in five countries, without naming them8.
